The proposal pause, enjoy being engaged

Breathe, Celebrate, and Postpone the Planner: Why You Should Enjoy Your Engagement Honeymoon

First off, a massive, glitter-filled congratulations to all the newly engaged couples out there! You did it! You built a beautiful foundation, you found your person, and you said YES! That shiny new ring isn't just a piece of jewelry; it's a marker of a huge milestone and the promise of forever.

My best friend recently got engaged (shoutout to My Best Freind 🄰!), and like many of you, they're starting this amazing new chapter. The advice I gave them is the same advice I'd give to anyone who's just embarked on this journey:

Take a holiday before the planning starts. Your engagement is your first honeymoon.

Phase 1: The Engagement Honeymoon

I'm talking about a solid month—or whatever feels right for you—of simply enjoying being engaged. Don't feel rushed to start looking at venues, booking florists, or downloading five different planning apps. That can wait.

Think of it this way: you worked hard to build a relationship strong enough to lead to this moment. This time is a little celebration of that foundational work.

• Process the Emotion: Engagement is a huge emotional shift. It's a new chapter! Take the time to actually feel it. Enjoy telling people how happy you are, letting that feeling of security and love wash over you.

• Be a Little Selfish: Focus on your partner. Enjoy the feeling of knowing that this person is going to be your person, forever. This precious month is a moment where it's just the two of you in a new, wonderful status.

• Ignore the Noise (Even from Vendors like Me!): Trust me, I know. From family and friends to the constant media coverage—I mean, who hasn't seen the world asking Taylor Swift about her plans?—everyone will be asking, "When's the wedding?" What have you got planned? Politely tell them, "We're just enjoying being engaged right now." You'll get to the logistics soon enough.

Phase 2: Let Us Help You Celebrate (When You're Ready)

As a wedding vendor, I genuinely care that you have the best experience possible. There's a reason we all work in this industry—we're passionate about celebrating people's happy days! And while we will be there with open arms and clipboards full of ideas when you're ready, we respect that crucial "honeymoon" period.

But, if you want a perfect, low-pressure way to mark the moment and show off that sparkle?

Consider booking an engagement shoot.

It’s a fantastic way to:

• Get Insta-Ready Photos: Who doesn't want the perfect pictures to commemorate this milestone? Even Taylor Swift would agree that having beautiful engagement photos is a must!

• Have an Intentional Moment: An engagement shoot carves out a specific, fun, and relaxing time where you and your partner can just focus on each other—no vendors asking questions, no family giving advice. It's just the two of you, your love, and a photographer to document your happiness.

I’m up for anything when it comes to helping people celebrate their happy days—even candid capture of your actual proposal moment (though I'd feel far more confident in a formal shoot!).

But for now, newly engaged friends, put your feet up, stare at that ring, and soak up the joy. The planning will be there when you get back from your engagement honeymoon!

What's the best piece of non-wedding-planning advice you've received since getting engaged? I'd love to hear it!
