Accommodations for wedding days dedicated to making positive inclusive decisions to follow health and safety and also to support neuro divergency and disability.

Flash, Focus, and Family: Our Commitment to Inclusive Wedding Photography

In the whirlwind of wedding planning—the dress, the venue, the vows—some details can get overlooked. As photographers, our job is not just to capture the beauty of the day, but also to ensure everyone is safe, comfortable, and truly able to enjoy themselves.

This is why, as part of our booking process, we always ask a vital health and safety question of all our clients:

Is there anyone in your family or bridal party with a sensitivity to flash photography, such as a diagnosis of Epilepsy or Autism?

To some, this might seem like a unique question, but for us, it’s a non-negotiable part of our commitment to inclusivity.

Disability-Positive: Making Every Reasonable Adjustment

We are a proudly disability-positive company. Whether the need is physical, sensory, or neurological, we are committed to making any reasonable adjustments necessary to ensure accessibility and comfort for every member of your wedding party and family.

This could mean something as simple as arranging for a chair for a loved one during extended group shots, or ensuring we factor in extra time and accessible routes for movement throughout the day. We are here to listen and adapt to all accessibility needs.

Why We Prioritize Neurological Diversity

We are strong advocates for being neurodiversity-positive—whether you or your guests have Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, or any other neurological difference. For us, this isn't just a professional consideration; it's a personal one. I am dyslexic and a lot of my friends have ADHD and autism so I have grown up a lot with supporting and also being near neurodivergent myself.

We've worked with many amazing couples where one or both partners are on the autism spectrum, and we've built our process to be adaptable. Flashing lights can sometimes be overstimulating for people with Autism. By asking this question upfront, we can adjust our approach before the day, ensuring the atmosphere remains calm and enjoyable. We want you to feel seen and understood, not simply accommodated.

We've noticed that when some couples with Autism inform us of their diagnosis, it’s often delivered with a slight worry or disclaimer. Our immediate response is always: That's absolutely no problem! Knowing this detail simply helps us do our job better and with more care.

The Critical Health & Safety Concern: Epilepsy

While overstimulation is a concern, Epilepsy represents a serious health and safety risk that we take incredibly seriously. We cannot, and will not, risk triggering a seizure with direct, repeated flash photography.

We recently photographed a beautiful wedding where, in the final consultation, the couple informed us their cousin had Epilepsy. Our immediate action was clear: We didn’t use our flash for the entire wedding.

This is where the technical aspect of photography meets compassionate action.

The Technical Solution: Trading Perfect for Peaceful

From a technical standpoint, completely ditching the flash means we have to make some adjustments. Our solution is to use a higher ISO setting on our camera.

What is ISO? It's a setting that tells the camera how sensitive the sensor should be to available light. A higher ISO lets us capture bright photos even in dim reception halls without relying on a flash.

The trade-off? High ISO can sometimes introduce digital noise (a slight graininess) into the images, meaning the technical "quality" of the photos might not be quite as pristine as a low-ISO, flash-lit image.

But for us, the choice is simple:

> I would rather use a higher ISO and have everyone feel safe and enjoy a pleasant, worry-free wedding day than create a technically flawless image at the risk of causing harm.

While we are highly trained photographers—in many ways, engineers of light and composition—we also need to be therapists. Compassion must always come first before our art.

We understand the technical limitations of high ISO, but it's a tool in our kit for precisely these situations. And with modern editing software like Lightroom, we can minimize that noise and still deliver beautiful, emotional photographs.

Our Promise to You

Your wedding day is a celebration of love, and everyone—every guest, every family member—deserves to be part of it without fear or discomfort. Our inclusive approach is our promise that we’ll go the extra mile, even if it means altering our preferred methods, to ensure that the beauty we capture is matched by the kindness and care we show everyone present.

Are you planning a wedding and have questions about our accessibility and health and safety procedures? Please don't hesitate to reach out. We're happy to discuss any accommodations needed to make your day perfect.
